SECOND BIENNIAL ODN CONFERENCE
The 2nd Biennial ODN Conference took place at the National University of Samoa, 29-31 October 2007. The conference also marked the occassion for the hand-over of the ODN Secretariat to the National University of Samoa. Dr Wood Salele (Dean of the Commerce Faculty is the new ODN chair). Participants who presented papers at the conference are invited to send their completed papers to Dr.Wood Salele (w.salele@nus.edu.au) on or before 17 December 2007.

- 2nd CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP, UNIVERSITY OF PAPUA NEW GUINEA, PORT MORESBY
The 2nd Capacity Building Workshop was held at the University of Papua New Guinea,
13-14 September 2007. The workshop was attended by more than 90 researchers mainly from PNG. Worskhop was also attended by seven 2006/07 research competition awardees. The seven awardees included 4 from PNG and 3 from Fiji. A total of 16 proposals were received from researchers within the region. The resource persons for this workshop were Prof Roger Valance from Divine Word University and Prof David Kavanamur from University of Papua New Guinea.

- 1st CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP AT THE PACIFIC ADVENTIST UNIVERSITY, PORT MORESBY
Between October 28-29 2006, the ODN conducted a successful Research Capacity Building Workshop which was held at the Pacific Adventist University in Port Moresby. The workshop was aimed at the 2006 research awardees of the ODN research competition. The awardees came from institutions within the Oceania region including Fiji, PNG, Kiribati and the Solomon Islands. In addition, young researchers from institutions within PNG also attended the workshop.
Over 90 participants were in attendance at this workshop over the two days. Associate Professor Mahendra Reddy from University of South Pacific was able to attend to assist with the mentoring process of researchers. The IMF Resident Representative (Dr Ibrahim Faal) in PNG also generously helped the ODN and acted as a resource person for which ODN is most grateful. Other resource persons included Dr Billy Manoka Dr David Kavanamur from UPNG. Finally, the workshop also produced two key documents, the Guideline for Research Proposals and Research Protocal.
- FRAGILE STATES WORKSHOP, BEIJING January 2007
As part of the 8th Annual GDN Conference in Beijing, the ODN in association wtih the Australian National University organised a workshop on 'Fragile States'. The workshop was lead by Prof Ron Duncan of the University South Pacific in Fiji.
